This course is suitable if you wish to study whilst staying within full-time employment as it's delivered in a flexible format. There is a blend of virtual classroom-based learning and home study via our eLearning website.

What you will learn

You can choose from the following three qualifications depending on experience:

Level 4 in Understanding the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice.

This award is for if you simply want to know about internal quality assurance without actually wanting to practice as an IQA – for example, if you’re a manager or an assessor who doesn't have access to assessors/learners.

  • Unit 4 - Understanding the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes Practice

Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice

This qualification is suitable for those seeking to become an internal quality assurer (IQA) directly involved in the internal quality assurance of assessors and assessment practice. For this reason they must have access to assessors and therefore learners who are currently assessing in an area of their own expertise. On successful completion they will be occupationally competent internal quality assurer.

  • Unit 4 - Understanding the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice.
  • Unit 5 - Internally assure the quality of assessment

Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice

This qualification is suitable for those with experience of working in an internal quality assurance (IQA) role looking to advance their knowledge and skills to progress into a leadership role with responsibility to manage the centre or other internal quality assurers.

  • Unit 4 - Understanding the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice.
  • Unit 5 - Internally assure the quality of assessment
  • Unit 8 - Plan, allocate and monitor work in own area of responsibility

The courses will give you the necessary skills to ensure best practice in the preparation and running of assessments. Lessons include:

  • Context and principles of internal quality assurance and how to plan the internal quality assurance of assessment
  • Techniques and criteria for monitoring the quality of assessment internally
  • How to internally maintain and improve the quality of assessment
  • How to manage information relevant to the internal quality assurance of assessment
  • Legal and good practice requirements for the internal quality assurance of assessment

What you will need to do this course

You will be required to have access to your own assessors and candidates within a centre and/or workplace, as you will need to assess them to demonstrate that you have successfully learned the criteria.

  • An appropriate assessing qualification
  • You must be qualified in the discipline you wish to IQA in
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in the discipline you wish to IQA in
