Diploma in Teaching Yoga

The popularity of Yoga for its health and fitness benefits continues to grow. Both gyms and yoga centres are seeing an increased demand for yoga classes on their timetables. There are many different styles of Yoga. This Yoga Professionals course is based around the practice of Hatha Yoga – the foundation from where many popular styles of yoga have developed. On the course you will learn yoga asanas (positions), pranayama (breath control), mudra (hand positions), as well as meditation and yoga kriyas (breathing techniques).

This course is suitable for individuals who do not hold a fitness related qualification but have experience practicing yoga and would like to develop a new and rewarding career in teaching yoga .It is also the ideal course for Level 2 Fitness Instructors and Level 3 Personal Trainers who are looking to make an investment in their career and develop the skills to teach yoga classes and one-to-one sessions.

Training formats

Blended learning

This format is suitable if you don’t currently hold a fitness qualification or are a Level 2 qualified fitness instructor. It blends practical, face to face teaching with eLearning for the Level 3 Anatomy and Physiology component of the course.

Face to face

If you are personal trainer or have successfully completed Level 3 Anatomy and Physiology, then choose this shorter route to complete the practical and yoga-based theory components of the course.

Learn to:

  • adapt yoga practices to meet participants needs during a yoga session
  • review yoga sessions with individuals
  • plan, prepare, instruct and adapt yoga sessions
  • design a progressive programme of yoga
  • understand how to identify personal goals with participants
  • fundamentals of teaching yoga (philosophy and practices)
  • deal with common conditions encountered in a yoga class

If you choose the blended learning format, you will also learn to:

  • identify the major bones, muscles and muscle actions of the body
  • explain the workings of the body’s cardiovascular (CV) and energy systems
  • identify the components and principles of fitness
  • relate the health and safety at work act to the health and fitness environment.

  • Recommended two years experience of practicing yoga
