Deferring an Assessment
If you wish to defer from any element of your assessment, the Programme & Assessment Coordinator must be informed at least 4 weeks prior to the assessment date, or the assessment fee will be forfeited. All candidates who defer are liable to pay an administration fee. Contact the Programme & Assessment Coordinator on assessments@ymcafit.org.uk or 020 7343 1881.
Missing an assessment
Candidates who fail to attend the assessment or give insufficient notice are liable to pay full assessment fees and may have to wait for an assessment slot to become available.
Booking Assessments
To book a theory assessment or practical assessment please contact the Programme & Assessment Coordinator. Please note, if this is a re-sit which you are paying for, payment will be required at time of booking. Spaces are limited so they cannot be held. Contact the Programme & Assessment Coordinator on assessments@ymcafit.org.uk or 020 7343 1881.
All candidates are assessed against agreed and published criteria. Achievement of these criteria is decided by experienced assessors who are qualified in Assessing and/or Internally Verifying in the Active Leisure Sector. If you wish to appeal against your assessment decision you should do so within 20 days of receiving your results by downloading the Appeals Procedure and completing the attached form. Send this form and supporting documents to the Systems & Process Manager, YMCA Fitness Industry Training, 111 Great Russell Street, London, WC1B 3NP.
Please note: It is extremely difficult to investigate appeals without impartial evidence. Appeals against a referral in practical teaching must therefore wherever possible be accompanied by video evidence. You are at liberty to video any part of your assessment; however, you must ensure that the video shows both the teacher, you and the class participants in order to accurately reflect the safety and effectiveness of the session taught.
Whilst YMCA Fitness Industry Training will make every effort to assist you in the smooth running of videotaping, they accept no responsibility for any arrangements or equipment related to such action.
Video arrangements, however, must not interfere with other candidate’s access to assessment opportunities or disrupt the smooth running of the day. Please give notice of your intention to videotape during the assessment-planning phase of your programme.
Successful completion of all the appropriate assessment elements will result in the awarding of a certificate listing the relevant discipline. YMCAfit certificates will be sent within one month of completion of the course. Certificates from external awarding bodies may take 3-6 months to receive but we are continuously trying to improve this turnaround.
All certificates are sent via Recorded Delivery which will require a signature upon receipt.
YMCAfit are happy to assist in replacing certificates when they have been mislaid by students. If the certificates are produced by YMCAfit, they cost £20 for up to 5 (and £5 each thereafter). If the mislaid certificates are CYQ, these cost £35 per certificate. If you are not sure which certificate you need, please contact us for advice. Contact the Programme & Assessment Coordinator on assessments@ymcafit.org.uk or 020 7343 1881.
