Fitness Management Jobs
As a fitness manager you will be responsible for the management and development of the gym team personal trainers, fitness instructors and group exercise instructor. You will also be responsible for the quality of the fitness training delivered on the gym floor and often for the studio timetable and class cover. As well as this you will doubtlessly get involved with many other aspects of a customer facing role.
Managing all the different personality types you will find in the team can be very challenging.
As a manager you may find that you have far less time for training clients or working the gym floor, this can lead to reduced job satisfaction if you live for delivering a polished fitness product personally. The pay rise may not be as strong a benefit if you have to reduce your personal revenue stream in training clients and taking classes.
Having said this, it is a step up onto the management ladder, and is a step closer to becoming a general manager of a health club, from here it may be possible to apply for an operations manager job or assistant managers role before going for general manager.
Alternatively you may look to move directly into managing a corporate facility. Corporate facilities do not have the financial pressures faced by commercial clubs therefore it will be your experience as a fitness manager that counts. The corporate roles can be Monday to Friday during reasonable hours and you may also be able to gain extra revenue personal training in a closed environment.
Salary Expectations
You can expect to earn £15 to £25k although this is a basic and there are various different relationships with employers regarding personal training clients and taking classes which can increase your income significantly in what is a rewarding hands-on job.
