Training formats

YMCAfit offer a wide variety of course formats to choose from, giving you the freedom to fit your studies around your lifestyle and learning preferences.

If you like to study in a group, we offer a face to face learning option. This involves coming in to a teaching venue and learning with other students. You can often choose whether you take your course during the week or over weekends so you can easily fit the course around other commitments.

This is a blend of face to face and distance learning. The practical component of the course involves face to face training at a teaching venue. The theory component of the course is completed by distance learning.

  • It is not suitable for everyone - you would need to be self motivated with a disciplined approached to studying.
  • Will take up your weekends.
  • No face-to-face interaction for the theory part of the course.

We have launched a new eLearning programme enabling students on Gym Instructor and Studio Instructor Award to study the Exercise and Fitness Knowledge component at their preferred time and place. The eLearning route enables learners to study wherever they are, and "earn while they learn” as the content has been designed to be studied in bite size chunks. Robin Gargrave says: “Whilst online learning is not new, our eLearning package is significant in having been designed to meet the needs of the student and qualified fitness instructor using a process that inspires, stimulates and facilitates learning and achievement."

To make the learning fun, easy and accessible, there are:

Students will be fully supported online and by telephone by highly qualified tutors.
