Supervising Exercise with Disabled People
This training course has been made available as part of the Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) and is supported by specific employers through their partnership with the IFI.
The course is delivered by YMCAfit on behalf of the IFI. It is a nationally accredited course and provides candidates with a nationally recognised VRQ qualification at Level 2.
It will provide you with the training, confidence and expertise in supporting relevant and safe fitness programmes with disabled people within the facility that you work.

Learn to…
- Deal with issues relating to disability
- Communicate effectively with disabled people
- Supervise disabled people within the fitness environment
- Assess how and when to refer to a more qualified individual where appropriate
- Offer ongoing development opportunities to disabled people accessing fitness services
- How to communicate with support networks with the aim to increase knowledge in related complementary areas e.g. GP Referrals
Prerequisites
- Level 2 YMCA Gym Instructor or equivalent
- At least 50 hours of teaching (recommended)
Format
- 2 days face to face learning (mixture of theory and practical)
Assessment
- Practical formative assessment, during the course
Certification
- YMCA Supervising Exercise with Disabled People
- CYQ Award in Supervising Exercise with Disabled People (Level 2)
