Specialist Courses
As an instructor you will often meet people who have specific needs and requirements whilst training your clients or teaching classes. You may be working with older adults, ante and postnatal women, people with mental health issues or on exercise referral schemes. By completing one of the following specialist modules, you will have the expertise and confidence to deliver safe and effective sessions for these important client groups.

Exercise and Ageing

Age should not be a barrier to exercise. For this growing section of the population exercise is an essential ingredient for a happy, healthy and active lifestyle. Choose to specialise in exercise to music, weights or circuit training to broaden your client base and ensure that you can deliver the appropriate programmes or classes and really make a difference to peoples' lives.

Exercise and Pregnancy

At some point in your career, whether you are a gym or ETM instructor, you are likely to find yourself teaching women who are pregnant or who have just had a baby. Or perhaps you wish to hold classes exclusively for this important client group within your community. Either way, ensure that you have the expertise and confidence to deliver safe and effective exercise for ante or postnatal women.

Exercise Programming with Disabled People

This training course has been made available through grant aid from the Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) and is supported by employers through their partnership with the IFI. The course is delivered by YMCAfit on behalf of the IFI. It is a nationally accredited course and provides candidates with a nationally recognised VRQ qualification at Level 3.

Supervising Exercise with Disabled People

This training course has been made available as part of the Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) and is supported by specific employers through their partnership with the IFI. It will provide you with the training, confidence and expertise in supporting relevant and safe fitness programmes with disabled people within the facility that you work.
