Exercise and Ageing
Age should not be a barrier to exercise. For this growing section of the population exercise is an essential ingredient for a happy, healthy and active lifestyle. Choose to specialise in exercise to music, weights or circuit training to broaden your client base and ensure that you can deliver the appropriate programmes or classes and really make a difference to peoples' lives.

Learn to…
- Structure and deliver appropriate circuit and resistance programmes or exercise to music sessions
- Explore the physiological, anatomical and psychological changes of ageing
- Identify the benefits of exercise for the ageing population
- Identify the safe and effective exercises in relation to a range of medical conditions
- Deliver adaptations and modifications for different conditions and abilities
- Perform and demonstrate a range of chair-based exercises
Prerequisites
- Level 2 ETM or Gym Instructor or equivalents
- Experience of working with older people (recommended)
- At least 30 hours teaching experience (recommended)
Format
- 4 days face-to-face learning, 1 day practical assessment and 1 evening theory paper assessment (a mixture of theory and practical)
Assessment
- Multiple choice theory paper
- Case study and verbal assessment
- Practical - you will be required to bring one helper for gym and two helpers for ETM (one aged over 50)
Certification
- CYQ Award in Functional Training for the Independent Older Adult Level 3
