Professional Development for Secondary Schools
YMCA Fitness Industry Training have developed four unique one-day training modules for secondary PE specialists and ASLs who wish to know more about using exercise and fitness activities as contexts for learning in secondary schools within and beyond the PE curriculum. The new secondary curriculum places even greater emphasis on young people making informed choices about lifelong physical activity.
Promoting learning about healthy active lifestyles through:
1. AEROBICS
2. CIRCUITS
3. FITNESS ROOM ACTIVITIES (CARDIOVASCULAR)
4. FITNESS ROOM ACTIVITIES (RESISTANCE)
Each 5.5 hour module explores a range of innovative practical activities designed to:
- motivate and challenge secondary school pupils to learn about health, fitness and well-being through Physical Education and OSHL
- develop knowledge about health, fitness and well-being alongside the personal learning and thinking skills required to make informed choices about the role of physical activity in their lives.
Each module and the accompanying resources (published by Coachwise) blend YMCA Fitness Industry Training's reputation of excellence as a training provider for the fitness industry with the work of Jill Elbourn who is nationally acclaimed for her expertise in the delivery of 'health-related exercise" in schools. All modules are delivered by experienced educational INSET providers who are not only qualified PE teachers, but also highly qualified YMCA fitness instructors. The majority of tutors are also playing major roles in the delivery of the PESS Professional Development Programme at local and national level. |
