Should meditation be offered on the NHS?
In an article about the numerous health benefits of mediation, the mail questions whether it should be offered on the NHS. What do you think? Join the discussion on Facebook.
Meditation is enjoying something of a revival with studies claiming it can ease depression, lower blood pressure, treat chronic pain and improve concentration. Doctors are so impressed with the health benefits they have even urged the government to fund meditation courses on the NHS. But many people are put off by a perception that the practice is only for religious devotees and earnest do-gooders.
Race for Life
Race for Life
Race for life is the UK’s largest women-only fundraising event with women of all ages, shapes and fitness levels invited to walk, jog or run 5k to raise money to help beat cancer.
Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life presents a great opportunity for fitness instructors and personal trainers to invite their clients to take part in the event so that they can make it a ‘fitness goal’.There are 230 events across the UK taking place from now until the end of July. While it’s a non-competitive event - many women choose to walk the course - others challenge themselves to run the 5k and try to get a good time.
Natasha Dickinson at Race for Life said: “Those who work in the fitness industry may wish to highlight Race for Life to their clients or fitness classes either as an ideal starter event for those new to running and keeping fit or as a challenge for regular runners wanting to gain a personal best time.
“Groups of women can take part in Race for Life together whether they choose to walk, jog or run 5k. It’s a really enjoyable day and fitness novices are put at ease by the fact that Race for Life is non-competitive and they can choose to walk or jog the course if they wish.”
Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life is now in its 16th year and has raised more than £290million. To take part or for more information, visit the Race for Life website at: www.raceforlife.org
