Former nursery school teacher sets up her own fitness studio

“I knew in my heart one day I would persevere my dream of a fitness career”.

Achieving her YMCAfit Personal Trainer course meant former nursery school teacher Farzana could lead the life she always dreamed of.

The 40-year-old mum, from Leicester, used to work as a nursery school teacher in London. She moved out of the big smoke in 2002, with her family, to lead a less hectic life and find more time to pursue other interests.

Having settled in Leicester, Farzana began researching opportunities to work in fitness - something she had dreamt of doing since a school child. “I recall a teacher in school telling me I had a unique talent for dance and that I should consider a career in physical activity. I knew in my heart that one day I would preserve my dream to do just that.”

Farzana decided to train with YMCA, enrolling on the PT course because “the qualification is recognised around the world, covers all areas of fitness, and I admire the fact that YMCAfit is a charitable organisation.”

Having successfully achieved her PT qualification, she went on to complete the YMCA Cardio Kick course.

As well as finding the content of both courses “amazing”, Farzana appreciated the flexibility of course learning (varied times, dates and venues) and is especially grateful to her Student Support Advisor “who was always there to help and answer questions over the ‘phone.”

As well as giving her the means to develop her new career, Farzana feels achieving her YMCA qualifications has given her the confidence to “fulfil wider ambitions – and conquer the world!”

Indeed, Farzana has since set up her own PT business – Fuzzy Fitness, which includes running her own fitness studio in Leicester. She is also working with Leicester City Council to develop sports opportunities for children, and with a local NHS scheme provider to develop a wide spectrum of activities to tackle obesity among adults and children. Farzana is also looking to use her skills to help boost fitness levels among minority populations.

A sparkling personality and warmth towards clients, along with a strong ambitious streak have no doubt contributed to her already impressive new career CV.

Though Farzana is keen to point out that “being steadfast and patient to achieve your goals – whatever they are – is the key to achieving them.”
